Rakeback returns a share of every bet you place, win or lose; cashback refunds a share of your net losses over a period and pays nothing when that period ends in profit. Over a typical losing month on slots, a 10% cashback returns more than any published rakeback rate, while rakeback is the only one of the two that still pays in a winning month. The wagering attached to each refund then decides how much of it is real money.
What rakeback is, and the two ways it is calculated
The word comes from poker, where the room takes a rake from each pot and gives part of it back. A casino has no pot, so rakeback is computed on turnover, and two formulas are in use.
- Share of the bet. 22Bit’s VIP status pays 0.05% to 0.25% of every bet. Wager $20,000 in a month and you collect $10 to $50.
- Share of the house edge. The casino takes the theoretical edge of each bet and returns a slice of it. BC.Game’s locked rakeback unlocks at wagered amount × house edge × 1%: $20,000 on a slot with a 4% edge releases $8.
Either way, rakeback ignores the result. A player who ends the month ahead still collects, because the payment follows volume.
What cashback is, and the wagering that follows it
Cashback looks at net losses over a day, a week or a month: what you deposited and lost, minus what you won. The refund is a percentage of that figure, and most casinos credit it as bonus money with its own playthrough.
| Casino | Cashback | Period | Wagering on the refund |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wild.io | Up to 20% | Weekly | None from VIP level 14 |
| Snatch | 10% + 10% | Daily + weekly | x3 |
| iWild | 10% + 10% | Daily + weekly | x3 |
| Vavada | 10% | Monthly, slots | x5 |
| Drip | 4% to 10% | Weekly, slots | x10, x5 or x3 by status |
| Katsubet | 5%, 7% or 10% | Daily, by deposits (€250+, €500+, €1,000+) | x15 |
| 22Bit | 5% to 11% | VIP club | None |
That last column changes the value. A $100 refund at x3 means $300 of bets, roughly $12 of expected cost at a 4% edge, so about $88 is real. The same refund at x15 means $1,500 of bets and about $60 of expected cost, leaving $40. Cashback with no wagering, as at 22Bit or at Wild.io’s upper VIP levels, is plain cash.
One month, three outcomes
Take a player who stakes $20,000 on slots over a month. At an average 96% RTP the expected loss is $800, but the actual result swings widely around it. Here is what each scheme returns before any wagering.
| Result of the month | 22Bit rakeback (0.05–0.25% of bets) | 10% cashback on net losses | 22Bit cashback (5–11%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up $500 | $10–$50 | $0 | $0 |
| Down $800 (expected) | $10–$50 | $80 | $40–$88 |
| Down $2,000 | $10–$50 | $200 | $100–$220 |
Cashback wins two rows out of three, and by a wide margin on a bad month. Rakeback wins only the month that ends in profit, where it is the only payment at all. Two corrections apply. At Snatch or iWild the 10% arrives at x3, so remove about 12% of the refund for the cost of playing it through; at Katsubet’s x15, remove about 60%. And with a daily or weekly period, a month made of one losing week and three winning weeks still pays on the losing week, which a monthly scheme like Vavada’s would net out.
When rakeback comes out ahead
- Low-edge games, with a per-bet formula. On a dice game set at a 1% edge, net losses stay small relative to turnover, so cashback returns little while 22Bit-style rakeback on the bet keeps paying. An edge-based formula like BC.Game’s shrinks with the edge instead.
- Very high volume. Wild.io pays daily rakeback by VIP level, up to $1,000 a day at the top tier, with no wagering from level 15. At that scale the daily credit outweighs a weekly refund.
- Winning periods. A player who expects to finish the period ahead gets nothing from cashback.
For Wild.io, the figures available give no rate per VIP level, only the $1,000 daily ceiling and 30 levels that never reset. You cannot price its rakeback in advance; you can only compare what lands in the balance after a week of play. The BC.Game review shows the opposite approach, a formula published down to the 1% factor.
Wild.io: both schemes on one account
Wild.io is one of the few brands in our catalogue that runs the two models side by side: daily rakeback, weekly cashback up to 20%, and a 10% daily cashback on live casino with code LIVE. New players also choose at signup between the welcome pack, 350% up to $5,000 + 200 FS at x40 on the bonus only, and 20% weekly cashback for their first two weeks. Run the numbers on a $1,000 first deposit: the bonus tops out at $1,000, which at x40 means $40,000 of slot bets inside 7 days with a 5 USDT max bet, and an expected cost of about $1,600. The cashback route returns $200 on a $1,000 loss with no turnover target. For the player who will not reach $40,000 of spins in a week, the cashback option is the better deal; both are detailed on the Wild.io welcome options page.
Wild.io is crypto only, with 12 coins and no euro account; the Wild.io casino review lists them with their payout times. It does not accept players from France, Belgium or Switzerland. It is open in all 14 French-speaking African countries we track, with funding in stablecoins through our USDT casino payments guide. From France, Vavada’s 10% monthly cashback at x5 is the closest substitute among the casinos that accept French residents.
Pick by profile, then sign up
- High-volume crypto player: Wild.io, rakeback daily and cashback weekly, both without wagering at the top of the VIP ladder.
- Cashback as cash: 22Bit, 5% to 11% on net losses with no wagering, set out in the 22Bit review.
- Covering losing days: Snatch, 10% daily plus 10% weekly at x3, compared in the Snatch Casino review.
Whatever the scheme, check the wagering on the refund before the rate: a 10% at x3 beats a 10% at x15 every time. The same arithmetic applies to deposit bonuses, worked through in what 35x wagering costs, and the in-house games that feed rakeback are covered in provably fair, step by step. Our crypto casino bonuses page lists current offers. For a player who wants both models on one balance, open your account through the Wild.io review, take the cashback option if your first week will be modest, and track the rakeback credits from day one.
